Hair Health

Before I get to the hair good good, I feel like I have to quickly address our current situation. Being quarantined has totally flipped all our lives upside down. I hope everyone is doing well and finding some positivity during these stressful and scary times. I can’t thank those who are on the front line of fighting this virus enough and those who are stocking/bagging our groceries or delivering our mail… truly so much self-sacrifice happening everywhere you look. I’ve seen images of Nurses saying goodbye to their little ones to keep them and us protected, not knowing when they will be able to hug their babes again. It is SO heartbreaking. I always try to find some light in the dark and while I may be out of work, I remind myself that I have been gifted time with Bran that I never would have had. I get the gift of being with him more. I will be eternally thankful for that and not take it for granted!

As a hairstylist I know how much having your hair done can build up your confidence and completely change your mood and energy, I saw it every day when I worked! One positive about staying at home is you can totally work on your hair health. Here are ways you can keep your hair healthy and growing while waiting to get back into the salon:

-Stay hydrated and take your vitamins, good hair health starts within! I have used Ritual Vitamins for the last 6 months and love them! I also put Collagen Peptides in my coffee every morning.

-Skip the shampoo. Hair doesn’t need to be washed everyday. In fact, when you shampoo daily you strip your natural oils telling your body and scalp it needs to produce more oil.

-If you need to wash use a product like dpHUE ACV rinse. It’s a great way to clean the hair without stripping it! I use this once a week…message me for more info or if you’d like to order! Your hair literally feels so light after using it, I have the best volume with it.

-Apply moisture to your ends! Our ends don’t get the natural oils like our scalp, so be sure to moisturize them as well 🙂 use hair oil or the IN COMMON Magic Myst Universal Elixir I spray this on my damp hair and then either air dry or style. I also will put on dry ends with my hands for a freshen up or to give my hair a little texture.

-Skip the blow-dry! Heat can be damaging, use this time to let your hair dry naturally!

-Sleep with hair in a loose braid to avoid tangling.

-Ditch old fashioned hair elastics. They can cause damage and tension, instead use scrunchies or an invisibobble. My girlfriend makes the sweetest crochet scrunchies if you check out her insta @boandpops.shop

-Sleep with a silk pillowcase! I just ordered this one on Amazon to replace my old one. It’s great for your hair by not roughing the cuticle or causing tangles. It’s also amazing for your skin and preventing wrinkles… win win!!

-Finally don’t feel the need to style! Here is my routine: day 1 fresh air-dried hair, day 2 braid, day 3 topknot and then day 4 I start all over with washing 🙂

Hope this helps and PLEASE whatever you do, don’t box dye or cut your hair haha your stylist will appreciate it later! xxWhitney

I’m against the days, when the skies stay bummer-grey and the cake tastes just okay, okay

Is there anything better than a few hair accessories? I love how they can dress up simple braid! Are you a fan of the trend? xxWhitney

Crimped.

IMG_8068I have an obsession with my Bed Head Little Tease Crimper. Let me tell ya why!

  1. It’s a great way to get a funky bohemian texture without the everyday beach wave.
  2. If you have fine hair it can instantly give you volume.
  3. It’s a great base for updos and braids.
  4. It’s an awesome anchor for you clip-in hair extensions.
  5. It’s like your mom’s crimper is back and ready to party!

For a half up Coachella, look I crimped my hair and braided the front sections. Then I gently pull the braids apart to make them a little thicker. Finally, you just tie the two braids in a knot and tuck the ends in!

For a mohawk vibe, take your crimped locks and put them into three ponytails. You can totally leave them like this for a hawk-style pony or put them in three messy buns for a mohawk updo! Super Easy and a little edgy. Check out below!

Anyone else diggin crimper right now?!

Hair Tutorial: Cowtail Braid

Warning: I’m a complete dork and can think of many puns for this post, but for your sake, I’ll allow myself two! MOOOVE over fishtail, pigtail, ponytail there is a new tail in town…the cowtail! I’ve got beef with the hair industry (2 puns and done) because cowtails have not been repped. Believe it or not, one summer I worked on a dairy farm for a couple of weeks and I have been in love with cows ever since! I am a lover of “next day hair” and dry shampoo. What’s not to love?! That’s how I started what I’m calling the cowtail braid. As usual I slept with my hair in a loose braid and woke up in a hurry so I did a braid but I stopped braiding about a quarter of the way down. Leaving the ends messy and wavy gave it a bohemian vibe and I realized it reminded me of a cow’s tail! I added a dutch braid with the tutorial to give it a little something extra! So here it is friends and I hope you love it! If you do love it or try any of my tutorials please #GoldiesArrow and #cowtailbraid 🙂 Thanks for following, I appreciate it! Stay Golden!

Hair Tutorial: Crown Braid

Hey frands! Thought I would do a quick tutorial of the crown braid I was wearing at the flea market! All you need is  some bobby pins (these are my fave because there are so many, and like socks, my bobby pins are always missing haha and they are great for holding updos), clear elastics and some texturizing spray I like Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray $44 or Redken’s Windblown 05 $19. It’s the perfect style for next day hair and you’ll be sure to get compliments!!

BaByliss Pro Curling Iron Tutorial

Hey All! Thought I would post a tutorial on curling your hair! There are actually dos and don’ts to curling and I wanted to share them with you. I’m going to be using a Bayliss Pro 1-1/4″ iron (Currently on sale here) to create two different looks. The picture above on the left is using alternate curl directions for a more tousled wave look, while the look on the right has curls all going in the same direction! I forgot to mention in the tutorial that my heat is set on med-hi and if your hair is very damaged or fragile feel free to turn it down! Make sure to follow me on instagram for more give-aways and tutorial notifications and #GoldiesArrow if you give it a go! I’d love to see your curls 🙂

Tutorial: Day Off Hair

Today I thought I’d put together a quick tutorial on styling your hair on a day off! It’s a good alternative to the 1/2 up top knot, requires no curling iron/wand and is a go-to of mine 🙂 I also apologize for my roots and my use of “dry shamps.” Kinda forgot I was making a tutorial and am a Heather Dubrow Real Housewives lover… and we know she loves her “champs”  haha!

*If you want to rock the braid all day instead of night feel free to do that! Just add a few random curls/waves with your curling wand for a night out look instead! Ladies with naturally curly hair this is awesome for next day hair after you’ve had a blowout or straightened it. It may help to put a little Moroccan Oil on  your ends before you braid and then lock the braid in with some hairspray! If your hair is fine, feel free to use hairspray as well before going to bed! I hope you enjoy!
